For nearly 20 years, I have been working on High Power Computing (HPC, Cloud Computing, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence) to support large scale engineering data processing, smart engineering optimization and holistic decision making towards sustainable built environment. As a Principle/Co-Investigator, my total project value is in excess of £28M (£5M as PI); I have more than 120 publications, leading a top class BIM & VR (Virtual Reality) laboratory, with a BIM team of 30 PhDs / research associates. Editorial board member for 4 international journals; reviewer for EPSRC, NSERC (Canada) and for 19 international journals; scientific committee for 18 international conferences; 40 invited /keynote speeches in UK, EU, China and USA.

Abstract of the keynote lecture

Computing Innovations in AEC/O Industry

AEC/O industry (Architecture, Engineering, Construction /Operation) has been undergoing a revolution during the last decade thanks to the emergence of many new computing technologies, e.g. Building Information Modelling (BIM), Cloud computing, Big Data Analytics, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT). There are urgent needs to smartly leverage these technologies to manage data, information, knowledge to achieve holistic decision making throughout construction project life cycle and across different sectors and stakeholders. The key note speech will give an overview for the international research and development in these related areas and showcase some completed and ongoing pioneering projects (e.g. sponsored by UK research councils, EU H2020, and international industry partners).
